The Marcus Lindsey is a beautifully re-purposed Victorian-era church, which was built in two phases; the first in 1888, the second in 1898. In January of 2009, after sitting vacant for a number of years, it was purchased and restoration began in February 2009. It was completed in February 2012. The property now includes three luxury residential units, a four-car garage, the breathtaking Sanctuary, and an elegant 1/4-acre professionally designed garden with pond and pavilion on the east side of the Marcus Lindsey property. The Marcus Lindsey is now a National Historic Landmark.
In 1898 the cornerstone was laid for the “modern” sanctuary. It now stands as one of the coolest properties in the Nulu District of Louisville — the latest, perhaps greatest, and certainly the most unique special event venue space in the city. The Marcus Lindsey is available for functions, large and small.
The Sanctuary — Expansive yet intimate, the former sanctuary boasts massive and original stained-glass windows; an original handcrafted-wood cathedral ceiling; and 3,640-square-feet of space, including the main floor and balcony mezzanine. It has the capacity to house over 220 guests.
The Sacristy — at 1,610 square feet, the Sacristy is directly connected to the Sanctuary, which is perfect for making a grand entrance to the ceremony, and it also has an additional private entrance off Shelby Street. This two-bedroom, two-and-one-half-bath condominium is available for bridal parties, caterers, overnight stays, and corporate meetings. It’s the perfect place for the bridal party, with two furnished rooms, each with a full bath: one for the bride and her bridesmaids, and one for groom and his groomsmen. The full kitchen is available for caterers.
The Gardens — a quarter-acre, elegant, professionally designed and landscaped garden with beautiful water feature. The estimated seated capacity is 220.
