the sanctuary

The SanctuaryThank you for three years of business! As of June 28, 2015, the Marcus Lindsey will no longer be booking events. Please see our homepage for further information.

In 1898, the cornerstone was laid for the “modern” sanctuary. It now stands as one of the most magnificent buildings in the NuLu District of Louisville — the latest, perhaps greatest, and certainly the most unique special event venue space in the city.

Expansive yet intimate, the former sanctuary boasts the massive and original stained glass windows, an original handcrafted wood cathedral ceiling, and 3,640-square-feet of space, including the main floor and balcony mezzanine.

With its wonderful natural light and incredible architectural detail and attention to quality, the Sanctuary exudes a unique and inviting atmosphere for weddings, receptions, celebrations, fundraisers, conferences, community and special-interest events.

The Sanctuary most comfortably seats approximately 150-160 people who can be hosted to live music and top-tier service. The space even offers a state-of-the art grand piano, which can be played in the traditional manner, or programmed with any music of your choice.

Planning a small, intimate ceremony? The Mezzanine, with its stunning North facing 20×20 foot floor to ceiling, original, stained glass window provides the setting for an incredibly unique and beautiful ceremony. See our gallery for images. The Mezzanine can very comfortably seat 32, making it ideal for rehearsal dinners, as well.
